One of my goals this year was to start a newsletter. I’ve been brainstorming and researching this idea for a while now, but last month was the time to actually do it! I just forgot to mention it here, haha.
Why a newsletter? Isn’t that old-fashioned?
The main reason is that I have much more direct contact with people than any social media platform can give me. With a newsletter I don’t have to worry about changing algorithms that make my posts less visible. Email is also decentralized: it doesn't matter which email provider I'm using, I can always reach you on your address. Social media platforms have come and gone, but email is still going strong after 51 years. Granted, you will have to trust me with your email address, but unsubscribing is as easy as unfollowing me. :)
What can I expect?
A monthly update in your mailbox with what I’ve been working on that month, along with interesting things I have been reading, watching or just found on the internet. On social media the attention span is short, so longer posts don’t really have a place there - in a newsletter I do have space to write and share more.
Due the nature of my game art work (NDAs and long production times), I probably won’t be able to share a lot recent professional work, but that has been the case on socials too; I just try to fill that gap with personal work and sketches. Naturally I’ll also share new products added to Etsy and upcoming sales and discounts!
What happens to your DeviantArt / Instagram / Twitter / ect?
I will still be posting new art and updates to these platforms, and I don’t plan to do that less often. The newsletter is there for everyone who would like to know more about the day-to-day business of being a freelance illustrator / game artist and what I think about and am inspired by. It is also the most foolproof way to make sure you’re staying up to date :)
blows the dust from the table
So far being more active this year, huh?
Well, I think nobody's 2020 went as planned! I wasn't active at all here on DeviantArt.
The last few years I've always felt like I only came back for Inktober, but looking at the last pieces I've uploaded that's not completely true. :D
I think I should stop fighting the urge to try and keep up all social media accounts - I've struggled with this for years and I still haven't found a way to deal with it comfortably.
It feels saddening to not be very active on this site anymore, but a lot of people I followed dearly have moved to other platforms too. Nevertheless I'll try to check in every now and then for the ones who didn't!
If you'd like to keep up with my artistic journey, please take a look at the other platforms I'm on.

Also, happy holidays! Let's hope 2021 will be better than 2020!
Hi guys! First of all, all the best for 2020!
Hope you all had a lovely Christmas and New Year’s Eve! :D
2019 has been the year I graduated from art school, participated in the Global Game Jam and was part of the Zelda Anthology book, though that project was sadly cancelled. I also started as a freelance illustrator right after graduation, and got a gig as a concept artist for a VR game! Hopefully I can tell you show and tell you more soon, for now everything is under NDA. :)
I opened an Etsy shop as well as continuing my convention practices, though I'm not sure if I want to continue the path of creating as much fan art as possible to sell at such conventions - I'd like to research ways to focus more on personal work. :/
I also travelled an awful lot this year: 10 days to Morocco, four days to St. Petersburg, three weeks to the US and a family trip to Switzerland - I had more flights this year alone than in the past ten years of my life! o.0 So bizarre!
You’ve noticed that I wasn’t online much the past year - I’ve slowly moved to Instagram (https://www.instagram.com/saskleart/) as the main place to share new work. I would like to try to be more online here this year, not in the least as I feel like I practically grew up here artistically.
Also, I finally want to have a shot at opening commissions online! I wanted to try that for years, if I don't try it now I probably never will. Stay tuned for the official announcement!
